Are You a Squirrel?

Have you ever watched squirrels crossing the road?

They remind me so much of today's Christians.

Squirrels need to cross the road for a better supply of food. But, while they are crossing a car comes toward them. Instead of completing the journey they start to jump back and forth, unable to make up their mind what to do. Should they continue on across or return to their starting point? This indecision often causes the squirrel to attempt to return to their starting point. This is often a deadly decision since it places the squirrel directly in the path of the approaching car. The starting point is a known area of safety and is thought to be the best area to reach. All thought of a better supply of food has been lost by the desire to be in a safe environment.

Christians feel the call of God to begin a journey and minister to the people around them and sometimes to venture outside of their own circle of friends to grow and be fed by the Holy Ghost. And, like the squirrel, as they venture out in Faith a car heads toward them. The car, which they feel threatening them, consists of the obstacles Satan puts in their path whenever they attempt to do God's work.

This is where the Faithful are separated from the followers. We jump back and forth for a little while because the approaching car has placed doubt and fear in us. A Christian needs to understand that doubt and fear are tools of Satan and his minions, not of God. We have stepped out in total Faith but have allowed obstacles to delay us and sometimes totally destroy our ability to step out by Faith. Most will attempt to return to the last safe place they know. A few will stop and stay in the middle of the road, neither advancing nor retreating. Even fewer will continue on in their journey after praying and gaining the needed strength from the Holy Ghost.

We sing a Hymn with these words: "Where He Leads I Will Follow" Yet we fail to truly follow where the Holy Ghost leads us.

Luke 9: 57 - 62
57 And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
59 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.
61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.
